being the most wonderful time of the year.

Every year that the girls get older, the holiday season gets more fun and exciting and this year we’ve pulled out all the stops.  Here’s our scrapbook for the season thus far…

This was the first year that we took them to the carousel downtown at Westlake Center.  It was the Sunday after Thanksgiving and a cold snap hit Seattle, but we braved the 20 degree temps and ventured out.  The line was super short and we got on right away, but as you can tell from the picture above, Janie and Meg weren’t all that thrilled about going around and around and up and down.  And I have to say, that carousel was flying!

I had big ambitions of getting out of the city to go Christmas tree hunting, but by the time Janie got home from her Nutcracker ballet class and Meg took a nap, it was too late.  So, we went to a lot that donates to a local charity and picked out a beauty.  Janie and Meg were more interested in the popcorn they got at the lot than picking a tree, but they had fun decorating it later.

As Meg says, “Pretty tree!”

Josh’s office is two-blocks from Nordstrom downtown, so the girls and I met him there after work to go see Santa.  We got in line at 4pm and saw Santa exactly two-hours later at 6pm.  Janie was shy, but had a nice chat with Santa about what she wanted for Christmas (a princess flashlight and an umbrella) and what snacks to leave for his reindeer.  Meg was hesitant, but sat very still on his lap with a very serious look on her face.  I got the professional picture in the mail today and her expression is priceless- I’ll scan it and put it up soon.  Every year I get a 5×7 of the Santa picture and have them all framed to put out at Christmas- it’s so fun to see each year!

A gal I went to high school with had put on her Facebook status that she had free tickets to go see the Rockettes show last week and I got in touch with her asap.  She works for a non-profit that gets comped free tickets and this year, they couldn’t get rid of all them- hooray for us!  The tickets were amazing!  They were club level seats- in the first row of the first balcony, directly overlooking the stage.  The show was great- it wasn’t just the Rockettes, but also about sixty dancing Santas, snowmen, bears, and so much more.  The girls loved it and they nearly lasted through the entire show before Meg got antsy and we snuck out early.

That’s the holiday report so far!  We went to Snowflake Lane tonight, but that will have to wait until tomorrow because I’m beat and going to pour my pregnant self into bed…
