Third time’s a charm, right?
Let’s hope so.
Janie is having eye surgery tomorrow morning.
If you are a long-time reader (and if you aren’t, go back in the archives and catch up for the love of god.), you’ll remember that Janie had her first eye surgery at 20 months old and then a second surgery almost 3 years old.
two days after her first surgery.
two days after the second surgery.
Since the last surgery, her eye has drifted significantly again, mainly just due to the physical growth of her body, and is causing her head tilt to become somewhat permanent (she tilts her head unconsciously to correct the alignment of her eyes). When she was getting her haircut on Friday, the gal kept trying to get her to hold her head straight and Janie just physically couldn’t- it kept tilting down to the right.
Janie doesn’t know much about the surgery tomorrow. In fact, she doesn’t even know she is having surgery yet, just that we are going to see Dr. Cadera in the morning. We’ve been intentionally vague with her about it because she is such a little ball of anxiety lately and there’s really nothing we can do about having it done, so it’s pointless for her to worry about it.
The first time, it was really no big deal and she even went to a birthday party the next day. Janie took the second surgery much harder and it took her a good week to recover. I’m expecting that she’ll bounce right back, but we’ll see. She’s obviously much older now, which will either help or hinder her recovery. To be determined.
