I begged some of my favorites to guest blog for me while I’m away this week, asking them to send me their 10 random thoughts. Meet Sarah DeNike of The Will to See, who I adore and is one of those people that I’ve been lucky enough to meet in this crazy world of blogging. Plus, she gave me some really great advice about road tripping with the kids… it was just three words, really: iPod and DVD player.
- My Diet Coke obsession has returned. I kicked the habit for a few years, but last spring it came back. I know it is really bad for me and I have a friend who is shaking her mother finger at me right now, but it is just so good. At least I am particular about my Diet Coke, preferring the fountain version to bottle or can. And don’t even think of offering me a Diet Pepsi. I’m out!
- My son Will’s voice is really loud right now. I don’t know if the volume has changed or if my ears are finally unclogged from the series of colds I have had, but it is crazy loud.
- Does anyone else’s kids ask the same question every day? Each day Will, who is almost four, asks if his friends Henry and Amy and their moms will be at school today. I am not joking about every day. As we walk from the bus stop to the car it is like clockwork.
- I am in a sports depression zone. This time of year is painful for us. After having at least four nights a week of football to watch for months, all of a sudden there is nothing. Our family isn’t into basketball and this year hockey has screwed up their season so we aren’t getting many games. We aren’t sure what to do with ourselves on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
- My office is really dark and I am not sure how to fix it. I have added an additional lamp and have the curtains open, but it is still dark. It is so dark that my husband just noticed that there are roller marks on the ceiling; the office was painted nine years ago.
- I have a new cell phone, HTC 8x Windows 8 Phone and am so excited. Someone asked me how this one is better. Well, the camera is better, it has a larger screen and it thinner. It has the new Windows 8 Phone software. But in the end I just really wanted it because it was new and cool.
- Jack’s handwriting is terrible, to the point that we make him rewrite assignments that come home messy. Last night I was talking with a friend whose son also has bad handwriting. She is looking into a handwriting camp. I wonder if the threat of going to handwriting camp verses soccer camp will be enough to get him straightened out.
- My boys are finally into Legos. I say finally because Jack has had Legos for four years and only now is really playing with them. The boys love them so much that had to expand the playroom storage with two six foot display shelves for all of their creations.
- A friend of mine showed me a children’s book that she just finished last weekend. It got me thinking about how I have always wanted to write a children’s book from our dog’s, perspective. Maybe I can try to do that this year too, adding another thing to the ever-expanding to-do list.
- The other day Jack asked me why my blog is named The Will to See. My response was that we liked that phrase and it had “Will’s” name in it. He then asked why it wasn’t named after him. It was very sweet and I felt bad saying that it was because at the time his brother had more issues than he did. Truth be told I probably write about them equally. I like that he wants to be included in the blog.
