I’m thrilled to share with all of you my first article on Red Tricycle, Best Seattle Playgrounds for Rainy Days.

If you live in Seattle, San Diego, Portland, Los Angeles or San Francisco, or anywhere near these cities, I encourage you to sign up for the Red Tricycle newsletters. They are a great source of information for parents in these cities and beyond — they’re newsletters are concise, informative and relevant — no unnecessary fluff or hit-you-in-the-face advertising.

More where that came from — stay tuned!

Any dogs reading?

No?

Hmmm. That’s weird.

My two newest CityGuides just went live on SheKnows — Dog’s Day Out in Seattle and Dog’s Day Out in Portland.

Check them out — and all the other featured cities — and be sure to rate each guide five pretty pink stars, so that they think that I have a lot of four-legged fans!

Sorry to be so cryptic about my first writing gig.  I wanted to wait until it was live and readable before I shared.

Let me introduce you to the City Guides on SheKnows.

Honestly, I don’t even know if this is truly my freelance debut.  My name isn’t on the guides that I wrote, but I’m still very excited to share these and had a great time researching and writing them. Hopefully it will turn into something more at SheKnows and I am currently self-pimping myself to the point of exhaustion.

Here are the guides that I wrote.  I hope you enjoy them, share them with others and rate them with five stars (so that they’ll think I’m popular and want to hire me for more work!).

being a writer.

11/04/2010

So, what I haven’t been telling you all of this time is that I’ve been working on something.  Sorry to keep it from you, but it’s been new and scary and I didn’t know if anything would ever come from it.  And actually, it’s still all of those things- new and scary with an unforseen future.

But, after accepting my first freelance writing assignment this week, I thought it was time to share.  Put it out into the universe and it will come true, right?  I think I saw that on Oprah.  Did you know that I don’t even LIKE Oprah?

Okay.  Anyway.

I made the decision to make a go at this writing thing sometime after Everett was born.  My first step was to make a committment to this blog, which I’ve done and loved.  The next steps have been harder.  Painful at times.  I’ll spare you the details, other than to say that this isn’t an easy business to get started in.  AT ALL.

And trust me, I know that this is just ONE assignment and one assignment does not a writer make.  But, it’s a baby step in the right direction.  A foot in the door.  The beginning of a new road.  I don’t think real writers use clichés.  Better break that little habit.

I’ll share the details of what I’m working on when I can.  I still have no idea about the rules for things like that and have to consult my So-You-Think-You-Can-Write type books.

Best part of being a writer so far?  Enjoying a beer while I worked on an outline last night & being able to be at HOME, working while my sweet family was fast asleep.
