being sun. glassed. {a tragic tale.}

sunglasses

I’ve been having a very very VERY hard time finding a new pair of sunglasses. The ones I’ve been wearing were circa 2004. I’m not kidding. They were scratched and glued back together countless times, but I loved them. Considering I’ve been doing repairs on them at least once a week for the past six-months, I knew that I had to pick up a new pair of sunnies (are we still using that term?) soon and I’ve been trying some on as I shop, but with disappointing results. Online browsing hasn’t been much better. Sure, I’ve found plenty that I’ve loved, but most of them include “Tom Ford” in the description and there is no way that I was spending $400 on a pair of sunglasses that Everett would likely put on upside-down and pretend to be a rapper in. Not doing it.

A few weekends ago, Josh and I popped into the GAP downtown on our way to dinner. I needed (wanted) a denim jacket┬áto wear over my dress and just like that, he grabbed a pair of sunglasses off of the rack that he thought I’d like and I fell in love. They are black. Big. Not too hipster-esque. And, they were $25, before a 35% off email coupon that I remembered I had at the last moment. They aren’t available online, but they probably have them at your local GAP too, in case you can’t live without them.

Am I the only one who is a total sunglasses cheapskate? Please tell me I’m not alone.

Editor’s note: I wrote this post a few weeks ago, but hadn’t posted it. Since then, Everett has, indeed, broke my beloved new sunglasses. Currently, the arm is taped back on with leopard print duct tape. I wish I was kidding.

being scenes from our weekend. hello, summer.

Well, that was a busy weekend. We had a very full, very fun weekend… and we’re all exhausted and the house is a disaster to prove it. Cousin Taran’s lacrosse tournament on Friday night (they took 2nd place this weekend!). Wild Waves on Saturday. Dinner at Etta’s for our anniversary on Saturday night. John Prine concert at the Zoo on Sunday. Can you hear me yawning through the screen? What did you do this weekend? (click through on the pictures to see them better.)

flashback

A family friend sent this to me last week and I couldn’t help but do a little flashback Monday. I think I was 15 here? I remember that dress very fondly, although I can’t figure out what shoes I’m wearing in that picture and it’s driving me crazy. I’m definitely seeing a little hint of Janie in that picture, which worries me. Because I remember being 15 all to well… Man, that dress looks way shorter to me now. Did I wear that to school?

I didn’t want one of these… until I REALLY wanted one. And, luckily, Santa pulled through for Christmas.

Now, tell me. I know that some of you are as obsessed as I am becoming. Give me your Clarisonic tips, notes, methods. I want to hear it ALL.

being 2013.

NYE-2012-Collagethe last pictures of 2012 from a party at our neighbors’ last night.

I’m feeling stumped about the year to come. Straight out stumped.

I have no idea what to resolve to do or become or what goals to make.

Stumped.

I tried to look back at what I was thinking at the beginning of 2012 and 2011, but I can’t say it helped much.

I suppose it’s hard to look ahead at an entire year and for me, I’m trying my best to live the best day I can every single day, instead of thinking ahead to what I want tomorrow to look like. It’s hard for me, as I’m a girl who loves to plan plan plan. And then plan some more.

But, when you live in the day or the moment, it’s also easy to let your bigger goals slip by. I think my plan this year will be to try to take on some monthly goals that are tangible and will keep my year moving forward, while still allowing me to keep my nose out of my calendar.

Here’s January…

Home: Reorganize the kitchen. Including painting the bookshelf Josh made me, pulling everything out of the cupboards to clean and reorganize, scrubbing the old, dirt-magnet baseboards until them gleam and adding storage solutions where I can.

Family: Create a better afternoon/evening routine. We have a good one now, but it’s not allowing Janie enough time to do her homework (which usually gets pushed to post-little kid bedtime) and I’d like to change things up when we get back to school next week. Advice welcome!

Me: In bed by 11pm and up by 6am. I’ve had the chance to get some lovely rest over the holidays and I want to keep it up. Really, I’d like to be in bed by 10pm, but considering my workload this month, I can’t see that happening.

Work: Put my name on a blog re-design list. Oh, how I’ve been avoiding this. But, it needs to happen. Not only do I need a re-design, but I need to transfer my blog to a self-hosted platform, which is more than I can do myself. Step 1: Finding a designer who I like, fits in my budget and will also do the transfer. Step 2: Paying the deposit. Both to be done in January.

Tell me, what are your goals/resolutions/thoughts for 2013?
